I have lost two of my 5 day old cornish cross chicks to what seems to be some sort of pneumonia. One I found dead, the other I culled when I noticed increased respiration rate/rales. Obviously, the others have been exposed to whatever it is that the first two fell to.
I don't want to abuse antibiotic use, but am tempted to put some tetracycline in their waterer. Part of me thinks this would be very unwise, but the other is a little nervous for the remaining birds. aarrrrgh. Totally frustrated....I hate it when they get sick when you have done absolutely all you can do to provide safe, clean envirnoment for them to grow...
Has anyone run into this problem and what have you done to ensure the rest of the chickies don't get sick, or just let nature take it's course?
