2 baby RIR chicks ...recovered! :)

I used a small syringe and just gave it a drop at a time. I even watered down some crumbles so it would get something into it belly to nourish, but I just think this one isn't meant to go on. I would be completely amazed if it is alive come morning.
Thanks for thinking of us though. I hope yours come through and get back on their feet (figuratively and literally).

Tuesday morning - They're both doing great, walking around and chirping like they used to do. Phew!

Minniechickmama - I'm hoping your little chickie pulls through! Sending lots of PVs your way...

Mine was gone this morning. I kind of knew it wouldn't make it through the night. Then I went out to feed chickens outside this morning and a hen that I got just last month, she was on her last hours. I put her out of her misery. Then I opened her up to see if she was egg bound or if she was an internal layer. She was eggbound. The egg, I think was just too far down the duct to move up for her. She was supposed to be a pullet and the eggs was a large one (a Welsummer BTW), not terribly big but for a pullet it was. There was a lot of nasty crud hardening around it which made it feel like a tennis ball when palpatating her abdomen. She was apparently like this when I got her. The guy I got her from said he hadn't gotten any eggs yet, but he could feel that she was getting ready to lay. Well, she must have had this egg stuck there for almost a month before I discovered that was what was happening. I am good at reading and looking at things, but I haven't owned chickens for very long. I have a brother who used to raise and show all kinds of birds who I discuss things with. We had them when I was a kid, but this is a new adventure I am on. I just hate that I have to learn so much about Murphy's Law all in one year.

I am very glad yours are pulling through. It is always tough when little ones get sick, no matter what species they are.

Oh! I'm so sorry! Sadness x2 - what a rough day for you. I hope the rest of your babies do well.

Final update on my chicks: I think they've fully recovered! They're walking fine, scratching for food, peeping like they used to... I can't imagine what happened, but I'm glad they're doing better. Thanks to those who offered advice or gave an encouraging word.
