2 bantams with eyes swollen shut, runny eyes *Updated-still need help*

I smelled her eye yesterday and I didn't notice a smell at all. I didn't even think to smell it earlier today when the stuff came out of it. I guess I was a bit surprised! She doesn't have any kind of nasal discharge. She peeped a little bit tonight, which she hadn't done earlier in the day or last night. This is all so new to me. We've had chickens for a year and a half and have not had any major issues. This is really worrying me, though. I've heard horror stories about people losing their entire flock to a disease. That's my worst fear with this stuff...

Is there any way to be sure that I'm using the right stuff? Or that I don't get the Tylan injectable and not need it? I'll try to take a picture of the little one (I guess if she makes it, that's her new name!) in the morning and let you know what's up. As for the others, the bigger bantam in the picture is about the same. Her eye was open almost all day today but then this evening it was shut. When I grabbed her she opened it up, though! Also, one of my Polish is sneezing and one of the buff Orps is sneezing every once in a while. Should I continue with electrolytes and VetRX in their water? I'm not sure what else to do about them. I really don't want to over-medicate the ones that aren't sick but still want to protect from getting anything if I can. Those are just the ones in the tractor. I've got 16 grown-ups that are nearby but they don't have face-to-face contact at this point with the little guys. Should I do something for them as a preventative measure? How in the world am I supposed to sleep tonight? Or work tomorrow for that matter!

Oops, I forgot to ask. They Tylan injectable... is that the one at TSC that says "Tylan 50, 100 mL, Elanco Cattle Treatment" or is there one that says it is for poultry? Also, any thoughts on using Terramycin eye ointment for the little one?

Wow!! All of you are so knowledgeable!! I have heard about this and wondered what to do if this happens to my flock. Good luck skya328!! My prayers are with you!!

Quick update before work:

The sad news to report is that the little one did not make it through the night. I guess it was just too much for her little body to take. As for the rest that are in the tractor, the big bantam (in the first picture) still is so-so. She has stayed the same pretty much for the last few days. Her eye was stuck shut this morning so we rinsed it. It opens now, but I'm sure it will be stuck when we get home from work tonight. I smelled it. It isn't odorless, but doesn't smell really nasty like I think it would if it were Coryza. It doesn't have any puss either. The Polish is still sneezing and makes a really high pitch squeak when she sneezes. Two of the other little banties (and I mean little!) are a bit lethargic and coughing once in a while, but their eyes aren't swollen.

I'll of course check for updates today. I'm not exactly sure what my next step should be now...

Ive been dealing with this same thing for a few months, you can cure it quick with pennicillian injections, 1/2 cup of bleach to 5 gallons of drinking water, 1 1/2 cups bleach in 3 gal sprayer of water and spray the floor and ground around chickens. pm me if you need to. the Vet rx will not help or antibiotics in the water.

Skya328 I am so sorry about your little banty. Wish I knew more...where I live there is no avian vet, so I just have to go by books and what I can find online. Problem is so many diseases have similar symptoms. I try whatever makes sense to me. I have never heard of bleach in the water, only vinegar, but ???? and sanitation is definitley important to help keep it from spreading. Sounds like" fatboys farm" has had some experience with this, whatever it is. Thankfully I have never had anything like what you are going through. I use Terramycin for some things, but if they aren't drinking good ,that would not be effective. I am thinking about you and will pray for you and your flock! I know prayer is all that has gotten us through some things!

@ fatboys farm - what did you determine this disease is? You say you have been dealing with this for a few months, with the same birds or different ones ? I just wondered if it was coming back , spreading or re-infection.

Anyway, hope you find something that works!
