Ok so I think a built my brooder to small to have all my chicks in it until 8 weeks give or take. I built a 4x3 brooder and being a newbie realized after the fact it's not going to house 26 chicks for too long. So here's my question I have a dog crate for my great ddane so its the huge one not really sure it's dimensions. Anyways as they out grow the one I built if I split them up into the brooder I built and the dog crate/brooder will I have any issues when I put them all out in the coop together? Oh I will be getting 25 pullets and one roo well thats what I order so thereabouts if I do split them should I move the roo back and forth between the two? Thanks for any help provided!

That young, it will probably work. Personally I'd switch several back and forth every day or two. Whether they are roo or pullet isn't really significant that young. And you're right, they will need more space, but the 4x3 should work for all of the for a week or two. Then when you separate, moving them around should not be an issue. Integration is much more of a problem with adults than young chicks.

I was wondering much the same thing. I have some Bannies and standards. I separated them yesterday because they looked a little cramped. If I do this again I will buy my Bannis about 2 weeks-1 month before my standards so they have a little time to be about the same size haha. I guess I should trade them out. Good idea. Thanks.

Thanks ddawn for the response. I was hoping it would work! I really dont have it in my budget to build another brooder. Though I probably should have tried to be more resourceful on the first one and saved money but hey we live we learn right!?
