So, I know I had 9 eggs under my broody hen. Today I had two chicks hatch. There is only one egg shell and there are still 8 eggs left to hatch. Is this possible? I have counted the eggs several times. I know how many were there this morning. Even if I had miscounted (which I didn't

) why didn't I find a second egg shell? I have opened eggs with two yolks before so I assume however unlikely it may be this is possible?

It is entirely possible. In fact, I believe there is a you tube video of "twins" hatching from a single egg. I think its quite rare though. If you've counted and recounted and are sure only one egg has hatched, Id say you have witnessed a very rare, extremely cool event. Could you post some pictures? I (and everyone else, I'm sure) would love to see them!

This morning 3 eggs hatched under my bantam producing 4 chicks! I was amazed as well so have been online trying to find out if its possible - clearly it is!

I always assumed that if a double yolker were hatched it would produce siamese twins or some other deformities. I never would have guessed that it would produce healthy chicks. Put me in the group that want to see pics! Very cool!
