I had a chick hatch after the egg was knocked around by others. The intestines and yoke were out of the shell and under the chick but dried out. The chick chirps, moves but obviously thin in the abdomen. I have it in the incubator with one other chick that sits on its hocks.
At this point the connection is a leather tether- can I cut it to possible close the orifice?
How long can the chick survive?

If the intestines are hanging out I’d go ahead and put the chick down. It won’t be able to live very long as food won’t be able to pass. Infection would probably take the chick out faster than not being able to poop.

To put the chick down you could wring the neck or put the chick in a sandwich bag, put the bag in the freezer. The chick will go to sleep and die.

Thank you- In my heart I knew this to be the case.
