Hi, just found this site,eggsellent!!

Wonder if someone can give me bit of advice. Today I bought 2 cockerels at auction,I really went with the intention of buying one but they were penned together,so I took both. Just wondering if they will get on ok together. I have 24 ex battery hens. they have lots of room to roam round the farm at their leisure, just worried that they may fight over the hens. I will post a pic tomorrow see if anyone can tell me what breed they are, just as a matter of interest. Thanks:),Carol

Im sure you will hear the horror stories about raising males together, but if they are penned together and not sparring in the cage, you will probably be fine. With that many hens, you will see one of them will become the dominate bird and will breed with who ever he wants, but the other will only be allowed a few. If they have space to move about, two males with that many females shouldn't be a problem.

With some breeds and individuals you can pen the boys together; with others they will kill each other. And it can make a difference if they do or don't have females in with them, but not always.

In general, game bird males can't be kept together, even without girls. Silkies often can, even with females. But there are exceptions to both.

Thank you for the replies,.they all seem to be getting on well,so far!!Hope it stays that way as they are both very nice so don't want to have to part with one if I can help it.I intend recuing some more hens in July so there will be plenty to "go round"
