We just got a new batch of chicks that were hatched on the 27th. One of the Wyandotte chicks was acting strange, we observed pasty butt and cleaned it. She seemed to produce some output afterwards. Tried to give her water, but she seemed to choke a little bit. She's not keeping her balance (we suspect splayed leg) and lunging forward, sometimes falling over.

Right now she seems to have calmed down but is shaking her head on a strange way, video included. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Will rest possibly help her?

I would make up some Nutra Cell water for them. It may be a vitamin deficiency. We just give new chicks that anyway on Day 2.

If it's splayed legs, there are several methods to fix that and usually it only takes 2 or 3 days. We use a little strip of Vet Wrap, some use a bandaid, some buy bindings on Amazon.

I hope she improves!!

Unfortunately she did not make it. She drank a little bit of the electrolyte mix but continued to lose it. The other 9 are without any symptoms and running around, eating and drinking.

It seems she had the leg issue, and the head shaking symptom already before developing the clogged bottom.

We've been going over the unfortunate lessons learned.
