2 day old chick-pooper problem-quick please?

Lol... I'm sorry. That was funny - your wording.

Chicks do make a fart noise when they poop. It's good. That means your pooper is pooping.

Pasty ends are only dangerous because the poop acts as a plug and then the little thing won't be able to "go" and that would lead to death for anyone. Keep the area clear and the chicks will be fine.

LOL I was giggling when I wrote that. I thought this is SUCH a newbie question!

She has gone 2 times already, decent amounts. I am confident that I got the important area clean. I have her back in with the others to rest for a bit before I work on her some more. Poor baby.

You did good. lol. They don't have to be too pretty... just functional. If there is still a large amount "dangling" you can snip it with scissors (very careful!) or try the soaking again.
hopefully they feather out soon. huh?

They are in their box now just chatting up a storm. Im sure it's all horrible stuff about the mean lady with the wash cloth. LOL

Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate everyones help. This forum is the absolute greatest!

i had one with a poopy butt and i ran her hiney under the fawcet for a while while i tried to rub it off.. took a bit but it worked..just let the water dribble warm then dry them off

Hi Maggies Pop:

Glad to see you got her 'pasty butt' unplugged. Last year my chicks had it worse (I had about 14 or so out of 86 chicks get it). This year only 4 or so got it.

Don't worry about getting her whole rear end cleaned off. If there is a little dried poo on her rear that is fine, just make sure you can see her 'pooper'. As long as you can see it, they'll be able to poop. Cleaning them is stressful for them so I try not to clean them if they just have some poo on them, just if it looks like they are or might become blocked.

I use a little wad of toilet paper, wet it really well in warm water and soak the dried poo really good. Then I keep re-dipping the toilet paper in the warm/hot (not hot enough to burn) water and keep working at it. This way the water helps to loosen the dried poo, and the chick gets as little water on them as possible.

Mine seem to have already cleared up, while the ones last year I had to watch them for almost a week.

Thanks everyone! I think she is going to be ok. The 1st one was easy to clean. Her bottom was covered and she couldn't "go" but she was an easy fix. The other one was tough. She still has some dried poop but she is at least nice and clear where it counts! I tried to get a majority of it off though because I was afraid of build up, but I think I will just leave her the way she is. Dirty bottom and all she is still stinkin' cute!

The first round of chicks we got (18 wks ago) were simple, no issues what-so-ever, i'm getting an education this time around.

And yes, I believe 100% that chickens do fart!
