Last week I had a chick that was obviously sick, couldn't move and died after a day of not eating/drinking and had labored breathing. Tonight I came home and found a second dead chick with no prior symptoms.
I started with 12 Cornish x and 3 Light Brahma. They are 2 weeks old and both that have died are CX. They get medicated starter, fresh water a few x/day, the first week they had a vitamin/electrolyte mixed in the water which I started again tonight after finding the dead chick. No runny poo or pasty bums that I can see. Yes to heat lamp, running around/spread out. They are on pine shavings in a well ventilated but NOT drafty brooder pen. I have older chickens who are completely seperate and shoes that are worn near brooder are kept there and other shoes are not brought in from other areas.
Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be and how to prevent more death?
Thank you!
