Oh! now that you mention it… our basement (where the brooders are) is supposed to be getting work to redo the ventilation for radon… it’s on the higher end of the “safe” zone and supposed to be fine till the guy can come fix the ventilation for it. but maybe it’s way too high for the chicks?

OMG!!! Get the chickens out of there ASAP. That radon gas is multiplied, compared to how much we humans would inhale. Hopefully you have a basement window to vent to outdoors.

Get a box fan to pull the radon out.

change feed and see if that helps. a friend of mine lost about 90% of chicks bc feed that was expensive and supposed to be good was garbage. with another batch he changed feed and was fine.

Radon gas while dangerous for baby chicks, will not kill them. But exposure can cause chronic respiratory illness later in adulthood, and also can cause cancer, same as in humans.

of course! i just don’t think about it typically since it’s not testing “dangerous” levels just in the higher then we’d like. the guy is coming next month to fix it. but i’ll move them outside and see if that fixes my issues. thanks everyone for helping me figure out some helps

I will and see if that helps too, i’m starting to think it’s smarter to just grow and mix my own feed at this point. had issues with 3 separate companies and their feeds for different animals this year already… always thought agrimaster might not be the best of the best but was at least good enough…
