Middle of somewhere
I have 2 females who have been taking turns sitting on a nest (I've been trying to get one of them to go broody for weeks, this was my first thread ), and now I honestly can't tell which one of them is the actual broody mama...is it possible they're both broody on the same nest? They're a runner and a mallard, and sometimes the runner is a little harsh/aggressive with the mallard but overall they'll eventually settle down and sit together in the nest box. Has anyone else come across this? Can I leave them alone and everything will be fine with incubation as well as raising or will things get ugly?

Not common for flock birds to share a nest but also not unheard of. I've seen my mallard hens swap out a nest and share the babies before.

How many ducks do you have? If just the two the one might be broody and the other is bored and trying to figure out what she is doing instead of hanging with her.

You only have a 2 bird "flock". Most likely the other bird just doesn't understand why her buddy aint out with her.

Then again women (gotta love them) you put a bunch of them together their hormones synchronize (and no man is safe). With birds being broody is hormonal. I've only every had mallards and muscovys but they never got along so they didn't buddy up. I also had large numbers of them both on a pond.

Love the response, but I have several other males that are separated half the time so its not just the two girls
