Broody or Bust: Can You Handle a Sitting Hen?

I’ve had two BO hens go broody within about a month of each other. Each time as I checked on them they would fluff up and growl a bit but they never pecked me. In fact, I was able to rummage around under them to check on the eggs, move them off the nest once or twice with not one act of aggression from them. So, I look askew at this constant claim that you’ll be pecked……or do we just have really nice chickens?

Some broodies are nicer than others. My broodies have been nice broodies but I know of others who have had mean broodies

I’ve had many, many broodies, my favorite is my second oldest hen, a 4 year old rhode island red. She raised 11 babies, and did a great job! Unfortunately the babies are fully grown and feral, and I ended up with 7 MEAN roosters and 4 hens
