2 egg questions!

This is a good point! When I was expanding my coop I was out there every day all day and I noticed that as soon as I was done and quit being there constantly, I got more eggs. As much as we think they like us, they really do want to be left alone to do their bidness!

We just expanded as well because I don’t think they had enough space, now they have a HUGE shed!!

For some flocks, it's easy to sort out just be looking at the eggs and knowing the breeds. In that example, the Barred Plymouth Rock would lay medium or large brown eggs, and the Silkie would lay small white or off-white eggs.


The two eggs in your photo look green to me, so they would be from two of the Easter Eggers.

The Barred Plymouth Rocks should lay brown eggs.
The Marans should lay darker brown eggs.
The Silkies should lay smaller eggs than any of the others, in either white or light brown.

Are both eggs Green? It's the EE's for the win! The Maran's first couple eggs might have a heavy bloom and look a different color than dark brown but it'll more commonly be dark brown. Barred rocks sort of pink/light brown.

Pink will be SO COOL. My girls would freak out in excitement !!!

The pullet who laid the darker egg will probably continue to lay eggs that are darker than the eggs laid by the other one.

As your other Easter Eggers start laying, you may find that some lay shades that match one or the other of these, or they may not. So you may eventually be able to tell exactly who laid each egg, or you might just know that a certain two lay darker and the other three lay lighter (or some such distribution.)

Officially it's a "brown egg" but see the one in the middle in this pic.... Barred Rock. So compared to the others I call it Pink.

We found our layers! We put a camera out there! And we got more first time layers!!! All the culprits are some of our Easter eggers!!! So excited!!

Sometimes people think they know when they don't. I thought all the speckled eggs were Mocha's until it became clear they were not. Later it also became clear that Mocha didn't always lay speckled eggs.

Most of my brown eggs are medium brown colored (except for the dark speckles), but once one was a very, very light tan. I don't have a breed that lays that color - as in, is supposed to lay that color. If I did, I would think it was her's.

I check more than I should. I think they lay less because of that.

My first 17 just started laying…well there is 3 of the 17. The 18th is my boy so clearly he won’t lay. But I’m out there ALL the time checking who is going in and out. I have a couple that just like to hang out and watch with me. Or maybe they just want treats. But either way I can tell I annoy my chickens. I swear I see eye rolls from them
