So every day my black sex link chicken lays 2 full sized brown eggs.
i know this because i only have 2 chickens and one lays blue/green eggs
i just think it is odd that shes always popping out 2 eggs.
the shells are really great shape and hard so its not like shes making soft eggs.

I just want to know if this is a genetic problem and if others have seen this with their black sexlinks?

And i'd like to know what kind of impacts will this have on her health over time.
they get all flock crumbles feed and every few days i'll give them eggs or sometimes sausages.
in the winter and watermellon in the summer as treats.

i don't do anything special to their food so i'm just confused how she can pop out 2 eggs a day lol

i also wanted to add that she lays them within a 5 hour period.

Commercial hybrids like Red Sex Links and Black Sex Links were genetically selected to lay prolifically, so I'm not overly surprised that once in awhile you get one that lays 2 a day.

Chickens lay an egg about every 23 hours, so it is possible to get 2 a day.

I've had plenty of BSLs and never had this, but again I can see it happening.

If the shells are strong, and she has access to good layer feed plus oyster shell supplement, she should be getting enough calcium.

As to longevity. That's a hard question as each bird is different. I can say that the RSLs I have had played out at 2 to 3 years without exception. My BSLs always lasted longer, but they were never as prolific as the RSLs.

High hormone production can be wearing to a chicken. All you can do is make sure she has adequate calcium, food and water.
