So I think 3/5 chickens are laying. I have 1 black sex link and 2 barred rocks. I believe these eggs are from the same barred rock (Lulu) because her friend already laid an egg earlier in the day. Could she of possibly laid both of these? And is it weird she prob laid it before bedtime? They are both very soft shells. And they were in the same box. I think she laid them when they went in for the night because they were cold when we found them. I already have oyster shells out for them.
A young pullet will sometimes lay two eggs in a day, but they don't lay two eggs in the same hour or so time period. It's likely the soft shelled egg is from the girl who already laid this morning. It got laid before a proper shell could be applied.
They were both soft shelled. One was broken and the other wasn't. My husband is the one that found them so I don't know how they were laying. Is it weird they could of laid them before bedtime yesterday?
One of my girls laid her very first egg at 6 in the evening. I had 4 girls who dropped soft shelled eggs overnight while roosting. New layers can take weeks to get into a steady laying pattern. It's very unlikely for a pullet to lay two eggs in succession. It's more likely that these eggs came from your 'not yet laying' girls.
Ok. Yeah I think one is from Lucy (she laid her first egg that afternoon) and then the other is from Lulu the other barred rock. I am assuming it's them because they match the color egg I got from Lucy.
And then I have 1 black sex link laying pretty much every day since her first egg. And the other 2 sex links nothing yet. One has checked out the boxes and acted they she was going to.
