We have a mixed flock of nine 18 wk old birds, of which three are ISA browns, and one a NovoGen. We got our first egg on Wednesday, I’m assuming from those 4 hens as they are acting hen-ny clucking and baaaawking. The others are much quieter and breeds that lay when older. That forest egg was a double yolk and oddly shaped -really oblong. Thursday’s egg was tiny but standard shaped and we have had no eggs since. I can’t figure out why!

One hen is laying eggs with no shell because I found quite a mess under the roost. And beside that I found two bloody poops so there’s sickness too.
I’d be happy to hear any advice or ideas you can give!!

The blood is a little concerning. Did you only find that one spot or have you seen other bloody splats like that? Are any of the birds lethargic or otherwise acting off?
We just took them off of free range about a week ago but i do remember seeing some reddish poop before. Nothing like this tho. And it looks like 2 of the birds are pooping like that.

Some reddish streaks could be shed intestinal lining which is normal. Coccidiosis would be my main concern, especially with lethargy and 2 birds showing signs of bloody poop, so glad to hear you're already starting up on the Corid. Are you familiar with how long to treat them for and all that?

I treated them way back when they were tiny babies as a prevention measure, but no, I’m just winging it! The info on the bottle is for larger livestock, but recommends a straight dose. Do I try that or just keep it to their water? Any advice you have is welcome!!!

This is the amount/schedule I followed: https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ol-ampromed-the-correct-amprolium-dose.73341/

I would treat the entire flock, replace their normal water with Corid water for the duration of treatment.

If the 2 birds that aren't feeling well need help drinking, drenching Corid water (using the same 0.024% solution that's in the waterer, use a plastic syringe and carefully dose them directly in the mouth, a little at a time, as birds can aspirate if forced) for a few days may be needed until they start showing some improvement in energy and behavior.

This is exactly what I needed! Thank you thank you!!
I have one more question.
We started five more chicks too late to join the big girls group. I haven’t merged them yet (😬) but they are currently living side by side, separated by chicken wire. Kind of a look-but-don’t-touch transition, separate waters and feeders. Do I need to treat the babies too? Pullets not babies, I suppose, they are about 10.5 wks old.
