Hi,

So I have got 2 geese and a Gander (Embden) few months back, they all are over 2 years old. Things seemed fine till one day GANDER became really violent towards one of the geese. He is constantly chasing her away and if he catches her he brutally pulls her feathers out and flaps with the wings to hurt her (I guess)... He is mating with another one, but let me understand why he is so violent to another one. We have separated them, but this is not an option for us long term. Any ideas?

Thank you.

So you think if I get another Gander things would improve?
I have 1 gander and 4 girls and yes my gander chases ALL the girls but the one he grew up with. I think getting another gander would lead to them fighting (the gandes) especially if they both picked the same girl. Give it some time if you can he may figure out that he is more lucky than he realizes right now. He is still young. I'm hoping for the same with mine, that he'll figure that out come Spring....

we decided to get another goose and see what happens as now she feels lonely even surrounded by all other birds

Some ganders can have as many as five mates, others only want one. I have a gander that brutally bullies one of my females “a buff named Apricot.” I don’t know what his problem is with her, she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, but maybe it’s because she doesn’t stand up for herself.

These situations don’t always resolve themselves and if left out of hand the gander may kill her or be the cause of her getting sick by refusing to allow her to eat. You may need to find a new gander for her and keep the pairs seperate or rehome her to someone who has a gander but needs a female.
