2-legged prowler!!!!!!

Dang, I hate to hear this. I agree on shooting a buckshot full of rock salt shot but also, how old are your in-laws & do they have protection against these type varments? Are they able to pull the trigger if need be? It might be a good idea to have your county police do a random drive thru a few times a night just to check on them. This has got to be scary for them. Here where I live most everybody knows each other & also knows who are the wrong kind & the wrong kind go to town to do their wrong doing's. Everybody I know including myself shoots first & then checks last after dark. You know these dang dope heads prey on elderly folks & it's just gettin worser.

Doesn't it suck when creeps are sneaking around your property..?! I can't leave anything in my front yard without it disappearing. Good thing your dog was on the ball and you were packing,,,!
I need a good gaurd dog again. The last one i had
was accused of crippling a man for life , by alledgedy knocking him off a bicycle.I got sued for one million dollars, the idiot lost the bogus case.Around here the crooks have more rights than the homeowner does protecting his/her property.
If i shot someone creeping around my yard at night, i'd end up in jail.I hate ny, can't wait to sell and move to a gun friendlier, homeowners rights friendlier place out in the countr someplace...Glad you didn't get hurt by that creep slimming around your coop...

Be sure of one thing when you shoot someone you life will never be the same.

There will be an inquiry and you may be found acting in self defense the first time but highly unlikely the second time. It all depends on the atmosphere that exists at the moment. Trying to predict how the law might or should deal with the issue is wide open to who has the best lawyer. Public prosecutors can really go off the reservation.

If you shoot an individual and don't kill him/her then the risk of retaliation becomes very real either immediate or sometime in the future so you must be vigilant. If you were not on your own property and not inside on your own place of residence it can get very serious and you may end up the criminal.

Also shooting someone with the intent to wound only will get you in a lawsuit....even if all goes well. Really think twice about that one.

Don't position yourself such that you become the loser. You'll have to prove your life was in eminent danger and that the threat to cause you irreparable harm and that your life was clearly in danger existed. Excessive force in on the side of the prosecutor.

Sic your dog on them and let him have at it and be sure you can call him off when you think the dog has relayed the message and save deadly force for inside your own home. JMHO an axe handle can be a real bone cruncher.

Id like to see the ordinance on that, because I dont believe any of that is true. In Florida, you have the Castle Doctrine which states, in part:

(3) A person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.

776.012 Use of force in defense of person.–A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. However, a person is justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat if:

(1) He or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony; or

(2) Under those circumstances permitted pursuant to s. 776.013.

776.08 Forcible felony.–”Forcible felony” means treason; murder; manslaughter; sexual battery; carjacking; home-invasion robbery; robbery; burglary; arson; kidnapping; aggravated assault; aggravated battery; aggravated stalking; aircraft piracy; unlawful throwing, placing, or discharging of a destructive device or bomb; and any other felony which involves the use or threat of physical force or violence against any individual.

California isn't much better. I hate this state, gonna move back east when I retire.

Go down and get an MK9 PEPPER SPRAY. Looks like a little fire extinguisher. If it happens again unload all 32oz on this fool. They even make the stuff with a purple dye that stains them for about a month. "Has anyone seen Larry?" "Why no haven't seen him in about a month." And if law enforcement see him they know it was him that "tried to do something to you that night." With pepper all you have to have is the belief he was gonna do something to you. Because it is a non lethal device clearly your intent was not to kill. But in my opinion under those circumstances you should have been able to light him up with your 9mm. The reason crime rates go up is because criminals receive no punishment for their crimes.

Halo, you are right. In Florida we have the right to protect our property called the Castle Doctrine. No permits necessary. I live in a rural area of Orlando and have a problem with a homeless camp in the woods behind me. Yesterday morning I turned the dogs on one of them in my yard. He wasn't just there to visit I assure you. Nothing like a 110 lb Bloodhound charging followed by a Boxer followed by an enraged woman with a 12 gauge to make someone scoot.

I have a carry permit and would not hesitate to protect me and mine if necessary. I carry a .45 Glock in my purse at all tmes.
