We have 4 Ameraucanas that we would like to let to let out of there coop in the eavening after work (supervised). We've only had them sence monday they seam to me to be flighty. Will they go back to there coop when the sun starts to go Down, or wait till they have been here longer? Thanks John

They should go back to the coop without an issue, but I would start training them to come when called. Get a can/jar/plastic bag of scratch grains and shake it good and loudly. Once you have the birds' attention toss some of the grain into their run to encourage them to go back home. Do this each time you want them to come home. Pretty soon the birds will come running at the sound of that grain can shaking. It is handy to have them trained to come when called because then you can put them away when it's convenient for you, and not have to wait for them to make the decision to come home.

Good luck.

I'm a new chicken owner and I was amazed at how smart they really are! I was so scared to let my girls out for the first time, they didn't seem to go far from their run & coop at first, Now 5 months on they can be 'called' to go home. I usually just say 'here chook chook' and they come running, plus they get fed when they go back home so they definately learnt by association!
Good Luck!
