I have 5 Columbian Wyandottes that are about 2 months old. I have had them for 2 weeks. I have them on medicated chick feed. Their bedding is pine shavings. All was good until yesterday morning.
I noticed one that was just a little more quiet, not fighting for the food dish, and not hard to catch. In the afternoon nothing had changed so I brought her inside to watch her more closely. I had felt her crop and thought it was a little larger than the others. She is pooping, but runny and some of it was very SMELLY, I mean horrible. I have never had one with smelly poo before. I gave her some scrambled eggs and she ate a little, and drank some water. Her next poo was not smelly, but had some blood in it. Every poo since then has had blood in it, and she poops often, and it still runny. I started her on Corid.
So I am thinking cocci. This morning she is acting ok, at least she was when she was in the house. I put her back in the pen for the day as I am at work and she got real quiet and sleepy looking almost immediatley. Also, this morning her crop was quite large, and it had been 6 hours since she ate or drank.
So is it possible that she has an impacted crop and cocci? If they have an impacted crop will there still be poop? I am worried that she ate some pine shavings. She has been on shavings since she was a day old.
So I keep the Corid in the water, I know that, but if she isn't eating or drinking because of her crop, now what? Do I withhold all food from her? Will they still poop if they have impacted crop?
I hate having to go to work and leave them when they are sick. She was preening this morning so hopefully she will still be alive when I get home. She just isn't perky. The other 4 seem fine.
