Sunday night I performed Crop surgery on my chicken Olivia, and I have some concerns. I've read and read but I think I need some reassurance. Background: I have a rather large flock and I don't know how long her crop was impacted for, things were still kind of moving through her around the hay somehow, just not great, but she is skinny. We saw she was acting funny and doing the neck waggle like she couldn't get things down, found a mass in her crop, smaller than a tennis ball but bigger than a golf ball, tried digestive enzymes, oil, massages etc for a few days with no luck, I was skeptical it would pass because it didn't feel like it could break up when I massaged it, so Sunday I bit the bullet and went in. We were super sterile, I got out a fistful of hay and other stuff she had been eating then flushed the crop really well with saline and we glued the crop and skin over it shut. She is still eating, she WANTS to eat, but shes not really drinking her water. I don't know what thats about, as before the surgery she was. I've been feeding her small amounts of wet catfood (maybe a tablespoon and a halfs worth, I don't want her stretching it out too much and ripping the glue job) further wet with water and a touch of vitamins and some honey. She eats like shes starving, and she is pooping, but this morning when I got up to check on her, her crop still had food from last night and she still has barely touched her water. I'm thinking her crop may just still be sluggish because she's healing AND/OR her not drinking and potentially becoming dehydrated is causing it not to move. I made a mixture of 1tsp of molasses to 1/4 cup of water and tubed her and gave her about 20ml of it (again, don't want to stretch the crop out too much) and massaged and will give her the rest of it in a few hours. She also clearly doesn't feel good, she kind of got her wings dropped and is very wobbly, loses her balance easily because shes weak I'm assuming. The crop isn't hot so I don't think we have infection, but now i'm wondering if I shouldn't give her some la200 to be safe? I'm probably overthinking this, but if anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
