2 Mute Swans Appear out of Nowhere !!!

Came home from work today to find that we have two mute swans on our lake. My husband called them and they actually crossed the lake and came up on our shore. We fed them grain (we have African and saddleback geese as pets) - and they let us sit two feet away for about an hour.
They seem so docile - and their appearance surprised us. How do they just appear and might they stay ???? Anyone else ever have this happen?

They are most likely just a pair of wild swans looking for a rest stop and a bite to eat. I have black belly ducks visit my pond a lot. And I know a guy who has Canada geese visit his. Nothing ever usually stays.
