Both hens are gifts from my friend. They are 3YO white Araucana hens. Ome is very calm, she got right at home her first morning and lay a nice large egg, has done so every day. The 2nd hen(a suspected egg-eater) will not submit to my roo nor lay eggs in the coop. For all I know she's hiding eggs out under the pine trees. Haven't found her stash yet. She also seems to be having a love affair with the neighbor's roo(an Araucana) He escorts her to & from our property daily. She gobbles our feed, tries to start hen fights with my BA hen. My DH is talking COOKING POT I was hoping to wait at least 2 weeks for this crazy white girl to adjust to her new home. Should I just lock her up in my extra dog crate~ inside the coop/run?
How long have you had them? Because stress from the move, may cause them to stop laying for a while. I would be patient with her and see if she will adjust to her new home! Not only that she needs to figure out where she stands in the pecking order and that can take some time. Patients is key!!!
Maybe you should trade her for one of the neighbors hens since she seems to be in love with their rooster. Maybe he has one that hates his rooster but is a super egg layer. Its an idea anyway.
Domestic & heather! I've had these two hens just over a week. My friend brought them over because my roo was wandering~ frustrated that his hen(my BA) was broody & non-submissive. My hubby was livid,
because my hen was setting on 4 eggs I was grateful for my friend's kind thoughts .
That IS an interesting idea, trading hens with my neighbor~ but I'll just hang on, my roo will have his way!
