TX baby!
We got our 1st egg this afternoon and for the life of me I thought the girls would be laying in the morning not 3:30 in the afternoon. Is she eventually going to lay in the moring or would she be a afternoon girl

other question

About 1:30 this afternoon my little Australop girl (25 weeks) earlobes turned a very pale pink color and the 2 hours later she had her egg. Now her face is much lighter then ever before will it stay this way or will she go back to her pretty red?

my hens lay all different times when they are laying lazy #$%&%%.

As far as face color I never noticed.

They're normally on a 25 hour cycle. In theory, if one laid at 3:30p today - she'll lay at 4:30pm the next day and so on. Once they work their way to night, they won't lay that day and will lay the next am instead.

All of this is "best case scenario" and this time of year everyone's birds have become really erratic with the changing weather, moulting and shorter days.

Congrats on your first egg!

I've never noticed the colors of my hens faces changing.

I'll have a couple eggs when I go out at 6:30a and I'll still have a couple hens still in the nest boxes when I go out at 5:30p.

I have noticed though that since its gotten cold out they seem to be laying a majority of the eggs later in the day. That's all I know

I usually have 3 white eggs in the morning when I get home from work and then the brown eggs in the afternoon. I don't know that there are any differences between the white egg layers and the brown egg layers but that is what mine do anyway.
