Hi! My 26 week old Black Australorp, Lavender, just laid for the first time and laid 2 soft shelled egg within 30 minutes of eachother 6:30 pm & 7:00 pm. I noticed the past few days she didn't seem to be "feeling well" but was still eating, sleeping and defecating normally. Around 5:30 pm tonight she looked like she was getting worse, (tail down, not interested in eating worms, staying still and far away from her sisters). I checked her to see if she was egg bound, but she wasn't. At 6:30 pm I found a soft shelled egg (membrane only? there was no hard shell whatsoever) in the dirt and I checked her vent again - everything looked fine but she still seemed droopy. 30 minutes later I found another soft shelled/membrane only egg from her. My other 3 hens have been laying for 1 1/2 - 2 weeks now and have strong shelled eggs and no issues. Is everything okay with Lavender? The girls are on Scratch & Peck Organic Layer Feed with Free Choice Oyster Shell and grit. They have access to fresh food & water all day, and are also supplied with both fresh and dry mealworms & waxworms, portable pastures, marigolds, weeds, flowers, leaves, organic veggies like spinach, kale, tomatoes in moderation. They are in their coop and run and free range in the afternoon. All the other girls have laid in the nest boxes with no issues, this is the first I've had an egg laid in the backyard. Please help and advise. Thanks!
