2 speckled sussex hen or roo, they are 14 wks old*pic heavy*

My pretty speckled sussex were sold to us as girls but now I am not too sure, I have been watching both of them develop but I am not good at telling just yet, still learning Thank you all for your help! I tried to get the best pic of them but they are always darting and never stand or sit still long enough for a photo shoot

They are very hard to tell apart, they are almost identical, I guess what is confusing me is the way their tails are developing and how much green is in their tail feathers, I am not familiar with sussex but have loved them and their personalities, I will be very sad if they are both males, we can't keep too many roos, we have a banty roo and he is just right for the yard

Oh I know! that is what got me to worrying over them, they look half-n-half, front half pullet backside rooish

We do have a bantam rooster and my DH was looking at them and started asking me if we got 2 roosters by mistake so I told him that BYC is the best place to ask and confirm our doubts and suspicions

My EE has a roo-ish looking tail -- but she's been laying eggs.

They do look like pullets in the front and cockerels in the back...till I saw this pic of a 12 1/2 week old cockerel, I now think yours are pullets! If you enlarge the photo, you will notice the feathers are MUCH MORE POINTY and the comb/wattles larger and redder at a younger age than yours.

Lothiriel: what a pretty EE and she does look like she has a roo-ish tail

JenEric Farms: thank you so much for the photo after comparing him to ours then I am satisfied they are pullets thank you for finding such a good photo to compare to, you are right there combs and wattles are not bright red and developed and the tail feathers are different, I have never had this breed before and was worried they may develop slower

They are definetly Hens
