Worms? Apple peels? other scraps?

I haven't got any grit yet, but I do have some sandy rocky stuff from the yard.

Oh, an I haven't got any medicated feed... just grower starter, but I do have DE ordered.

Are we doing okay? Chicks seem happy.

Thanks!

Welcome

If you have them walking around they should be eating stuff like grit. If they have been in the yard for a week you could break up a worm. You could mix water with there feed and give that to them. I don't know about the apple peels.

I've feed my chickens apples since they were six weeks old, no problems. I teach middle school and I encourage the kids to give me thier apples if they don't want them so I have a huge bowl of chicken apples on the counter. I cut them in half. It is hilarious to watch one of the hens get half an apple stuck on her beak and go tear !#@ing across the yard with the other ones in tow.

Right now keep it to medicated chick starter and grit. The grit you can find for little chicks at walmart via for cage birds like 1.34 a box in the bird section. Also petsmart carries boxes of grit/sand for cage birds for liek 2.00 a box or up. Wait till they are feathered out before you go on the goodies.

If you must give a treat, try hard boiled egg yolks.

Mine usually get medicated chick starter for about 4-6 weeks.
