Well I apologize then!!! I'm fresh to this as it can be. First chicks and all.At 2 weeks old, it is literally impossible to sex a chick. Typically they need to be 6-8 weeks before they develop any characteristics that you can reliably sex them by. Those are the comb/waddle formation and coloring, the saddle feathers and sometimes the arrow feathers on the neck.

I have 1 barred rock, 5 bovan browns, 4 French black copper maran and 10 rainbow chicks. all but the barred rock are pullets.
I downloaded this app about 10 mins ago just to get an answer about my barred rock sex
they areFun! Wow, that's a lot of chicks, you have a big coop for those? They grow crazy fast.21 birds is a big flock.
What are the rainbow chicks? Are those the dyed ones or are those some kind of neat breed?
WELCOME btw.![]()
Thank you so much for your response!!! I read and heard about the spot on the head and the leg color but im torn as well between both. I was sure that it's a female at first but now... it sure lolBarred rocks are sexable to about 80% ( accordingly to the internet). Males have a large white spot on the head and girls are supposed to be more rounded. The girls are supposed to have a darker down and leg wash. (Meaning their legs will be darker.)
I am in by no means an expert on sexing barred rocks. But hopefulybthus info will give you an idea of what to look for until someone else who raises these comes along. Otherwise you will have to wait until about 8-9 weeks to get a better answer.
I am torn on a good guess. The spot on your chicks head is relatively small and well rounded (female), but your chick is very light in color and the legs are light as well (male). I truly hope someone else will come along with a more definitive answer.
