Our 2 week old chick was behaving normally for 2 days after getting it; however, the last 2-3 days it has been sitting down constantly. I was told it was an Orpington but it has feathered feet and extra toes. It still eats and drinks and will walk short distances but as soon as it stops it will sit down. It is also still pooping normally. It still responds to stimuli but sleeps a lot more than the others. The chick also seems more unstable on its feet than the others. For example if another chick pushes past it, it might fall to the side.

The chicks are on the Purina Medicated chick stater, have access to fresh water, and have a brooder plate. They are also on pine shavings. I have not seen signs of respiratory illness like sneezing or discharge though it’s respiratory rate seems faster. I can take a stool sample to the vets to rule out any parasites but their poop appears normal.

I really hope someone has some insight on what I can do to help this chick recover. Thanks!

The reality of chicks,, and life,, is there is no guarantee that all will make it.
Some chicks fail to thrive for unknown reasons. There is also no known cure for every situation.
I understand your concerns with your little friend :hugs ♥️
Just keep doing what you are doing. Make sure there is feed and fresh water available.
See to it that chick finds the brooder plate for warmth. Possibly place her there and see if she responds better there.:idunno
It can also be a different breed than the one next to it. That may be a factor in how the chick develops.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

I would get the chick drinking fluids and offer some moist and dry feed, and egg yolk. Consider buying some Corid and starting treatment for possible coccidiosis. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Treat all chicks.
