2 week old chick with pasting problem!

Quote:
I had a terrible problem with pasty chicks! There were a few (like 4) that would get pasty butts and it was impossible to make it stop! I tried everything...trimming the fluff, putting vaseline around the vent area, everything I could of thought!

it didn't work. The pasting didn't stop with anything and I have no clue how they stopped it. I still have a "chick" around 10-13 weeks old with pasty butt -.-

Skitz,

Try the ACV in your chicks' waterer - it aids in their digestion which, if their having a hard time with digestion in the first several wks of their life, then pasty butt is the result. You can also add a little molasses to their water as well - it works as a natural and gentle laxative for chicks.

Pasty Butt;

Believe it or not, Pasty Butt is a symptom of constipation. The cure is molasses in their drinking water. Molasses is a natural laxative for fowl. Mix it like weak tea and give it to them for 1 day. Naturally you should clean their little butts with a warm damp cloth. This treatment is for adult birds as well as chicks. Good luck..........Pop

The only problem I had wth bathing the baby chick was worring about it drying thoroughly afterwards. DD (12) gave one a near full bath and its head was the only dry body part. Then she hands it back to me, still dripping.

I fussed and she grabbed a kitchen towel and we gently dried and fluffed it. It went straight under the heat lamp and by the next day I couldn't tell which one it had been.

Good luck!

To all who gave me such great advice,

My chick now is starting to do better, I tried the ACV and also grinding it's starter feed; then the next day I tried the yogurt. Today it has done so much better!!!!

Thank you for all the great advice,
Tammy Alexander
