Hello everybody, and good afternoon,
I was moving my 2 week old pullets from Meyer hatchery to a larger brooder this morning, and I came across a chick that has a prolapsed vent....It poops and when it does a marble sized amount of vent lining comes out. I pushed it gently and it went back in, and then came out 2 minutes later. She since hasn't pooped today and it has not come back out. What can I do to keep it in? I moved her to a different pen so she is alone, and I am watching her carefully. She is eating and drinking fine.

Hi @CuzChickens :frow How is your chick today?

If the vent is prolapsing every time she poops, then you may want to offer her wet feed for a few days (sounds like she may be constipated), make chick grit (crushed granite) available free choice and see that she is drinking very well.

For the vent, it may be a bit swollen or inflamed(?) Soak her bum in a little epsom salts water and apply some hemorrhoid cream, honey or coconut oil to help heal and soothe the vent.
Let us know how she is doing.

Hey guys! She is doing better today, I've been keeping her calm. She seems to prolapse when stressed. Thank you both for the advice! Her vent is large compared to the other chicks, so I'll put some of the suggested things on and hope she is good as new in a day or two!

Glad she is better!:wee You keep doing what you are doing! Best wishes! :D
