At first it was just small spots on the wings a week ago. I put blukote on them and hoped they would heal and feather out. I have not noticed the other chicks hurting him or anything. Pretty sure it's a he (based on the legs being really thick compared to the other chicks). While I cannot keep roosters I would hate for a baby (of any type) to get sick, be miserable or die. Sadly I am starting to consider culling him. It's now spread to under the wings, and above them on the chicks back. I only have a cellphone for pictures, the chick is black with black skin so it doesn't show up in pictures (so I wont bother posting them).
I added more blu kote. Anyone know of anything else to do besides making it a sweater?

I had a batch of chicks going bald like that and it turned out to be lice/mites. We dusted them and their mom and eventually their feathers grew back and they were fine.

I have 19 chicks and this is the only one it is happening to. I kinda think it's something wrong with it. It hatched only 16 days into the incubation. It's fuzz actually was different from the rest of the chicks from the start. More velvet like, and now it's not feathering out like they are. The rest are getting regular feathers in all the spots that this one is going bald in.
I will dust them but if it were mites wouldn't it effect all the chicks?

You're right. It would affect the other chicks as well... I'd suggest posting in the Emergency and Diseases section. There are members hanging out there that's very knowledgeable about these things. Good luck! Hope you get an answer and don't have to cull him.

well if it's a rooster he'll be butchered eventually. It's just kinda weird that he's the only one with this issue.

Just watch he doesn't spread whatever it is to the rest of your chicks. Sorry I couldn't help, but I'm not very experienced in disease etc.

I posted in the disease section it was suggested that it's just feather plucking from the other chicks. So this lil birdy has to be by himself.

I would like to update everyone on the health of the silkie mix. He was put in his own cage to see if he'd get better, he did not. I caught him plucking his own feathers out. It was a stress issue. I have picked out the most gentle rooster chicks I have (the pullets picked on him) and put him with 2 of them. In this past week with those two friends of his he has grown back most of his feathers :)

That's great! Glad you figured out what the problem is and that he's better.

I would like to say thank you for being so kind to the little guy even though you said he was likely going to freezer camp. Im glad he is getting better .
