2 week olds dive bombing each other

Mine don't start until they see me watching them. It's like they are showing off. "Look at me! I can fly!....flap flap flap flap thud!"

Im so bad I even encourage them to flap up to the edge of the brooder to perch there, looking around. I only covered the brooder with wire when I am not home and the door to the "nursery" is open. (Cats.)

I would walk in to the room, see a chick on the floor, and cheer the chick on! "Come on, you got out, get back in again!"

And they do.

That's why I didn't cover the brooder bin.

Dont worry this is normal =] it is like a toddler learning to walk and when she does she wants to show everyone and wont ever stop walking =] THEY ARE HAVING A BLAST (but even then i would still suggest checking on them every once and a while for injuries and pasty bums)

I call it "chick bowling" -- my 2 week old babies run wildly about flapping their wings from one end of the brooder to the other and then pile into whatever bunch of chicks are standing still sending everyone scattering and cheeping like mad.

We had two who were doing this yesterday!! My daughter was bursting with pride for them and for herself because she's spent so much time sitting with them!!

Mine are about a week older and they do it too. Jump off the roost and fly into the crowd. Wait till you have about 4 of them chest bumping and neck stretching each other. Mini gang fight. Took the lid off the brooder yesterday to feed them and three tried for the great escape. Gonna need a coop soon!

Glald this is normal my almost 4 week olds are doing the same thing, I do have a question for you all . I have a thermometer hanging in one corner of the brooder to monitor temp. and they love to go over to it and peck at it , Its like they are drawn to it and cant stop sometimes, I was thinking ablout getting a childs xylaphone and mounting it on the wall so they can at least learn to play a tune and maybe amuse their selves that way > thldnt hurt their beaks would it ? I thought it be fun and entertaining for all of us

If there's red on the thermometer, they'll be attracted to that.

I think the little xylophone would be a great idea! There are various chicks in each of my broods who turn into "wall peckers" and sometimes I think they're trying to send messages in Morse Code. They could have enjoyed making music!
