I got 5 Amerucanas 3 weeks ago. All of the birds were very thin, had mites and leg mites, and very long toe nails. I have treated them for every thing and just finished last dose of worm med on Tuesday. I was told the birds are 2 years old. All but the rooster have very pale combs.

1 hen has not put weight on like the others- she feel just like bones no meat.

2 today she is just sitting in one place.

All the other birds seem fine.

3) there is no bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.

4 ) they lived in a damp run with no coop other than a small dog house. Now they have a coop

5) the birds have vitmins in the water, layer food, and some scratch to help put on weight

6) the poop looks normal

7) theyhave been treatmented for every thing , but I have not given Abx, should I give this one some?

8 they have a coop and a roost, they have a 3 ft by 12 foot run. They will have more space when I can put them in with the other chickens.

Have you given them nutri-drench? If not, I would... Wait for a more experienced first aid person on my next thought to confirm. I would probably also increase their protein (a grower feed) until they are healthier. I'll be following to learn.

One of the chickens that didn't even really seen that sick has died. The one I have been worried about is still alive but does not look any better

Did/do you have other chickens besides these new ones?
It's possible that these new ones are not used to the Coccidiosis already on your land and may need to be treated for that too.

What wormer did you use and how much of it did you use?

Worming an already sick chicken sometimes isn't a good idea.

Skip the scratch..stop using it.
Get them some starter or grower feed, which has more protein than layer feed, to help put on weight.

It you offer scratch they are going to "fill" up on that junk food first and not get the right amounts of the complete feed.

Antibiotics are not a cure all....are they coughing or sneezing?

wormer safe guard
they are not getting any more scratch. Now they are getting grower feed and layer feed mix with vitamins and electrolytes water. Now that I have removed the last one that looks sick she has a very small amount of yellow diarrhea. The chicken does not want to eat but looks to be drinking ok.

How much safeguard did you give them?

This really sick girl..if she continues to drink she might pull through.
Would you consider tube feeding her?

safeguard 1/2 ML x3days 2nd treatment 9 days later.
I watched youtube and today I have feed her by hand. Not sure how much to feed her. Some information said 50 ML 2x day. She will not eat that much. I think I gave her about 50ML throughout the day.
