I have a silver laced Wyandotte that we got as a day old chick with 3 other chicks. She had a pasty butt issue and we had to clean her up several times. When the others started getting tail feathers, she never did and continued to have poop caked on her. Her vent was never blocked, just crusty poo on her feathers underneath that would need occasional cleaning. My family named her Ossie, because, without tail feathers, she looked a little like an ostrich running around! She's got the sweetest personality and seems healthy, but she has never once laid an egg and she is 2 years old. We thought that we may have damaged some young feathers in some of her cleaning and assumed she may grow them back after a molt, but she has not molted yet either. She doesn't submissively "squat" like the other hens do when they are ready to start laying. I initially thought something was wrong with her a sa chick and that we were biding time until we found her dead, but she is happy and thriving. We have accepted her as a quirky, non-laying addition to our group! HAs anyone had this happen? I'm wondering if it IS related to her pasty butt issue as a chick? I can't figure out why she never grew tail feathers, why she never molted and why she's not laying! She definitely goes against the rules!

There is probably something wrong with her. Since hens have only one functioning ovary if it is damaged or formed incorrectly than they will produce no eggs. It is good she's hanging in there despite all her problems and that you are willing to let her live her life, many would have culled her.

Welcome to BYC!

Agrees with OHLD.

The pasty butt as a chick is probably mostly coincidental,
tho could also be part of 'something just not right inside'.
As is the no tail feathers.

Does she actually have a tail and tail bone?

She does have tail and tail bone....and one lone tail feather. :) She's pretty cute. No signs on anything like internal laying and any other sickness. One or two of the other hens will lightly pick on her a little from time to time like not let her to the treats first or kick her off of the coveted high perch, but then she'll be on the perch the next night proudly cooing her night time song. Sounds like everything it as issue separate of each other and she's just special. She will likely outlive all me hens!
