20+ Chicken Run

I have 875 square feet of run for 16 chickens. I know in my mind that’s plenty but i honesty want them to have more. Is that crazy? This spring I plan to fence an acre for them. The existing run is covered. This will not be. There will be the chance for exposure to hawks but they will have trees and bushes for obstacles and hiding places. Plus they will be able to get back inside the covered run. Chicken fever...

Not crazy. I have 27 birds, plus 12 chicks just hatched, plus 7 more duck eggs in the incubator (plus whatever of their eggs I collect today). My run is about 1,000 sq ft, and I'm adding another run [and house(s)], larger, so I can segregate my flocks. Its in an area roughly 4.5 acres of electric fencing. However, my runs are uncovered.

I may end up doing a smaller version of what you’re talking about. I plan to grow my flock as well. I feel like another coop will be necessary within another year or so. My 12x12 coop houses 16 chickens right now. I’ll get by for a while.
