I am leaving 60% of the contents of my luggage there...
I am packing a lot of things for the locals.... tooth brushes, tooth paste, soaps, clothing... the basics that we take for granted in North America are really hard for the "average" Cuban family to afford.
When we were there in January it was cold for them (not really for us) but the security guard for the night shift was freezing.. he had what we would call a spring jacket and a touque and a thin pair of mittens. It was 4*C we were fine in our hoodies but this poor man was freezing... my husband took his hoodie off and gave it to him.. he was so grateful.. the following morning he went to give it back to my husband and my husband declined and told him he could keep it (the cold snap was going to be around for a few more days) the poor man was almost in tears with gratitude. He explained that a simple hoodie that we think nothing of would be about 2 months wages for him.
