I was told that daddy was a black Amer covering blue Amer hens. I was told they breed to SOP standards. However, the older my roos are getting (turned 20 weeks yesterday) the more I am starting to think maybe they eggs got switched with her Easter Eggers? Opinions please!

Ummm....I am a chicken newbie but I have black and blue ameraucauna chicks about 6 weeks old....

I also saw the parents when I bought the chicks.

Black is black; Blue is blue/gray.

The breeder also had splash and well they didn't look like that little one. I think you have an EE.

yeah, thinking so too. They were all black when they were younger then a lil color started and now poof! I am so mad it's not funny! I tried so hard to make sure these were actual Amers! Just wanted some others to agree with me before I go to the breeder. SO frustrated!

Yeah that doesn't look right at all. And the Splash is far more evenly "splashed".

FYI here are pix of my 6 week olds....

Black....

Blue on far right. Not a smidgen of gold/tan on either of them.

BTW as chicks mine were black/white and gray/white. As they get older the white disappears.

Looks like gold leakage. Not sure how prone Ameraucanas are to that as I've never had any. I have seen it in blue and black Faverolles

It is also possible the person selling them thought they WERE purebred but they didn't separate the rooster/hens long enough (takes 3 weeks or so?) before they started hatching eggs.

Here were mine at 14 days...blue up front black behind. Black was missing a lot of down when I got her hence the weird looking head.

And here is a roo at 3-4 weeks (trying to find a later but think they are on my phone that took a swim) I can't remember what age the color started showing but it's there now.. and now I think My Amers are EE's :-(

Sadly this person has been breeding for quite some time so I don't think that is the case. Now, maybe mixed up her OE or EE eggs.. perhaps.. not sure exactly! looking at said Dad and poss mom's there is no gold or cream anywhere!

That chick does look a lot like my black Ameraucauna did when younger. Yeah, maybe she got mixed up.

She owes you some purebreds! Maybe you can still find a place for these chicks though?
