20 week old Blue/Black Ameraucana or EE?

That chick does look a lot like my black Ameraucauna did when younger. Yeah, maybe she got mixed up.

She owes you some purebreds! Maybe you can still find a place for these chicks though?
Not sure.. I need to calm down a lil bit before I call her for sure just wanted to make sure that this coloring is not normal for an Amers before I jumped the gun ya know. Thank you!

Even 2 SOP parents will produce non SOP offspring on occasion. That could be the case here as they may have looked like SOP birds when she sold to you or maybe she gave you culls. Either way, they are Easter Eggers if they are Ameraucanas off their breed SOP. You should probably just contact the breeder and tell her what happened and ask for replacement birds that are SOP. A pairing of a black roo to blue hen should produce all black or all blue but no splash Accepted SOP colors for Ameraucanas are Black, Blue, Blue Wheaten, Brown Red, Sliver, Wheaten and White, so that bleed through is not SOP.

Thank you! I was afraid of that. sigh 20 weeks of thinking they were Amers.. I thought I did it right this time! The pullets are ALL black. That would make them Amers based on SOP then, correct? I do know a broody hatched these ones out and I do know that she also raises EEs and OE's. I have looked her pen pics over well and I see no leakage at all from her Blue/Black pen (her other Amers are Lav) so that makes me think maybe there was a switch of the eggs or something going on. She has been breeding for a long time. This is beyond frustrating!

Yes, probably just an honest mistake on her part. Now you could probably start a nifty line of EE's from those roos by crossing them with some of your other hens. It doesn't really matter what breed you cross them with since EE's are only EE's by virtue of the blue egg gene . Here's the link to the Ameraucana page on BackYard Chickens. They will be able to help you with your SOP questions on color better than me because I don't know much about Ameraucana genetics in relation to color..lol.

Thanks! I sure hope it was an honest mistake. However, 20 weeks of feed, battle of cocci plus the cost of the chicks.. sure turned into a pricey mistake.. sigh. Still debating what to do. I am already a lil bitter as we bought 6 Amers chicks and 6 BBS Marans. All 6 of the Marans are roos. 2 turned out to be splash and the other 4 are actually turning black copper! If she hadn't advertised them as PureBreed Amers and talked about how they only breed for best quality and sop on her website and in person that would be one thing. Not to mention if we hadn't traveled 2 hrs just to get them! We could have gotten Easter Eggers here! Still too upset to call her.. think I better sleep on it!

Sorry you had such a bad experience with this. Get all the deals you make with her in writing, maybe also record it on your phone so you can hold her to her promises. Did she make any sort of guarantee on sex/breed and what she would do for you if they are the wrong birds or off SOP? Some of the better breeders will take back the roos and replace them with pullets if that is what you ordered. Unless of course you got all fertile eggs and hatched them with your own broody in which case they can't guarantee sex... I wonder what her reputation is with local breeders and poultry clubs? That would give you a good idea of whether you are dealing with a shady breeder or someone who may have just made some bad mistakes.

I never thought of asking any of those questions.. oops! I guess a lesson learned for sure. She actually has a good reputation from what I have found online.. both before and after I got the chicks. That is why I went with her. They were SR chicks and I totally understand roos happen,, 6 out of 6 was a bit odd though. I totally get that but the color is all off.. which was frustrating but I was going to let it all go until I started looking at other BBAmers pics and went oh no!

Just out of curiosity what did you pay for the Ameraucauna chicks?

I found a local breeder on craigstlist and bought from him at $3 each, I didn't even know getting purebred was hard to do and he was selling purebreds of various breeds. He also promised if I ended up with roos he would take them back and keep them himself (I did end up with one roo but I can handle one).

That's a good deal if they truly are purebreed Amers! I paid way more than that.. we did get a deal as we bought 12 chicks from her. I believe buying less they would have been $10 each. Amers are pretty easy to sex but that is a good thing! Ours were less than 3 days. The older they are the more the price goes up.

Ok, just called her and she played completely dumb. "I don't know what happened" She said she does not have any Easter Eggers anymore so it couldn't have been a mix up with the eggs. And does not have that problem with HER chicks. She said she has nothing with gold so she has no idea where the leakage came from. HOW odd considering it's BOTH roos! We told her how out of the 6 BBS marans, all 6 are roos and that 2 are splash.. the others are all copper! She says she has no idea how that happened either that she has never had either issue with any of her chicks! So.. guess I am screwed and letting her know did nothing. NO idea what the correct way to buy TRUE Amer chicks is unless you actually KNOW the person and travel miles in our case. Just seeing their website and or the parents I guess isn't enough. I am crushed :-(
