20 week olds, pullets?

Give the SS a little more time for better coloring. The more they molt, the better the speckles. Mine did a late juvenile molt around 20 weeks, but looked like yours before they did. They also didn't start laying until about 30 weeks. They will be 1 yrs in April and even though they lay almost every day, their combs still look a lot like yours- pale and small.

Agreed, pullets....
When you were talking about hackles and saddles... this is what you are looking at.

And these types of feathers show up starting at around 12 weeks. So yours are definitely pullets because they'd already have their full cockerel plumage if they were male.

I agree, they are light and speckled sussex. Speckled chicks get more spots with each molt. My mille fleur d'uccles all had very few white spots when they were that age.

Heya.
So I’ve had these 2 from about 8-9 weeks and have had many moments of being certain they are pullets to going to down rabbit holes of reading about hackles and saddles and sickles that makes me less sure.
Just interested if anyone that knows more of what to look for would like to weigh in. The dark one (a jubilee orp or speckled Sussex or some sort of mix) is the one I’m a bit worried about today, a few days ago it was the light Sussex 😅
I can’t have a cockerel and I love them both so hoping they will lay instead of crow but am letting my impatience get the better of me!
