My flock in all now 20 weeks old give or take. (except my boy Jmatt, he's about 3 years old)
Just found my first eggs down at the lake on what we call the "beach" area.
I'm surprised I found them at all.
My flock is free range on our 5 acre lake so I half expected to never find any!
I was sure surprise!
I'll have to check there in the mornings to see if I have more surprises!

Congrats!! Better you than a predator.

Thanks!
I'll either eat the ones I find or ditch them into the lake.
Not interested (right now) in babies and I don't want to encourage predators.

Mmmm I vote bake some brownies with those puppies! hehe
I second that opinion~ we'll send you our add. by PM

I'd be afraid to eat these first ones since I'm not sure how long they had been sitting there.
But I will now be watching that area for more!
The "Beach" area is exactly where their "section 8 housing with lake front view" had been set up when they were young!!

What do you suppose the odds are that they will continue to lay in the same area?
And what's the best way to clean them once I find the eggs?

I don't plan on cleaning mine except if they are really icky and then just before using. I have been getting farm fresh eggs for over a year now and am used to semi-dirty eggs and we have not gotten sick. I like leaving the natural bloom on them. I buy loads of fresh eggs 1 time a month and they sit in my fridge for 4-6 weeks and are still great! (i did oodles of research on this) Also my research I came across that duck eggs could stay fresh longer because the extra thick shell. I am not sure how true that is but it makes sense. You can do the float test- put it in water....floats bad. Sinks half way or all the way...good to go. :D I always use my nose though. If it smell funkay- it be funkay! haha

To further this - brushing off the loose bits with a dry towel leaves the bloom intact. But a little dirt is no biggie.
