2009 Quilt block of the month - February

Try here, fewer choices and it only shows one block at a time so it feels easier to see so it's a bit more simplified, and very step by step. Always try to see how little squares can make a strip, and enough strips sewed together will make a "Block"

http://mccallsquilting.com/qb/

these patterns show that if you break it down more, two triangles make a square, four squares make a bigger square, for of those can make a "Block"

it goes on from there, but if you look for the ways to turn little bits into a larger square or a 'strip' it sort of goes together.

Look for a pattern that lays out into building blocks easy, avoid curves or anything that needs sharp points inset together for a first try.

Also, DON'T PANIC! In my book, A simple block from a beginner will be appreciated because of the effort it took to do it, and treasured by any of us! (IMO anyway) stick to a couple or three colors two that are similar and one to contrast...

This is NOT a contest, it's friends sharing!!

[edit] that quilterscache link does lay things out pretty well too! don't let it overwhelm you!!

I am absolutely certain that I have lost my freaking mind here, but never let it be said that I wasn't up to a craft challenge!! Sign me up..and I'm easy..country earthy colors. Makes me hear that song in my head "Craaaaaaaazzzzzyyyyyyyy"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys had lots to say today and I missed it all until now because I was stuck in a meeting all day! I just wanted to say that you all make me smile and I love it!

Glad you joined us.

PortageGirl - if you're asking me which type of block you should make since you have me first... I don't know what to tell you! I think I've mentioned before that I often have trouble making up my mind.... lol. I like a lot of traditional type blocks and star blocks, but I will love anything you choose, I'm sure. I just love seeing how others combine colors to make the block come together.

There were several others that joined too and now my mind went blank (and I'm in edit mode, so I can't lock back)... anyway, welcome to all of you!! We're glad to have ya!

I'm not doing no red herring, I think I can do the Amish Block, and work my way up from there. I may have to go to Lancaster and date me a amish girl so she will show me the ways. Why cant we do a block of wood exchange, I know how to do that.

Send me a feeder like you have in your coop (or is that the oyster shell dispenser?) and I'll make you a red herring.

SO ARE YOU IN?

From the looks of It I may have to send you the coop. The feeder is a converted Potatoe Bin the Oyster shell and grit despensers were my making though. 4 pieces of wood and a couple nails seems a lot easier than 4000 different sizes shapes and colors of fabric sewn together to look like a flower

(dang noisy little boogers)

Yeah, the oyster shell thing you made is awesome...

Come on you can join and make a basic block - a 9 square or something like that... easy and it will keep you out of trouble!
