**2009 Quilt Block Swap for JUNE**

Hey Scrambled - love the string quilts, and they are so easy! We had Gwen Marston come to our guild last summer for a class and she showed us a way to make them even EASIER if you can believe that! It's one of my favorites for quick gift quilts like babies, etc.

kat - mom to 3 kiddos, 5 cats, 1 spoiled dog, 3 chickens and two more on the way; wife of one very understanding guy!

I have 13 blocks made and they are so interesting with all the scraps that tell a "story" of all the other things you've made!! I love the technique already so if it can be easier, yes, do tell!

Let me get some pictures uploaded to help me explain it (I typed it out in words, but even I didn't understand it, LOL!) It may take a day or so - but I'll hurry as much as I can.

But in the meantime, if your library has "Liberated String Quilts" by Gwen Marston, it's in there. She's all about making things easier, faster and to heck with the quilt police

I wasn't super keen on many of the quilts in the book, but the technique is awesome!

Here is a thorough preview of that book... http://books.google.com/books?id=UF...=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3#PPA14,M1 to me, the biggest difference is that she is making purposeful designs and I am just random strip sewing. I have already been sewing my scraps together to make my strips long enough, her work is very pretty and when I finish all my random strip ones that star interests me alot and I might get brave and try that. Hopefully my camera stuff should be in today or tomorrow, I ordered a card and a usb card reader so I can take pics again and will take some of my blocks. Thanks for the info Calico, very interesting!!!

The other big difference is that she doesn't use a foundation. She pieces the strips together randomly, adding on strips to make a piece of "new fabric". Then you can cut it back up into squares and Presto- string quilt blocks.

The diamond takes a template that is in the book, but the results are awesome!
