Going to he-ll in a bucket and enjoying the ride!!!

Now the real science is that the magnetic field of the earth does
and has shifted polarities. However it is a long process. When it
does happen the field will get weaker, as it is doing now (a little),
and stopped protecting us against cosmic rays and other radiation.

I think I'd rather have it happen quick then watch everyone around
me die of starvation, radiation poisoning, and cancers.

I'm just waiting for algore to blame polar shift on global climate change.

So we're either going to be hit by a giant meteor in 2012, the magnetic field will shifft, or we're going to be pulled into the sun... great ways to die.

I'm not worried about it. Like another person said, theories of impending doomsday have been around forever.

I believe we can't know when the world will end, so if someone's telling me it's going to end on a certain day, then they are likely not right about it.

I'm sure this will become another Y2K thing... People will stockpile food and water and freak out, and will wait...and wait... and nothing will happen.

Meanwhile, I'd rather not add to the fearmongering. There's enough of that going on right now without adding to it with something new to worry about.

One of my professors used to joke around and tell us that the world is ending in December of 2012, so there was no use for us to continue in college. He would tell us to just drop out now while it was still early. Did I mention I loved this professor?

Anyways, Douglas Adams has a wonderful quote. It doesn't quite fit this discussion exactly, but the idea is still the same.

"We don't have to save the world. The world is big enough to look after itself. What we have to be concerned about is whether or not the world we live in will be capable of sustaining us in it."
~Douglas Adams

I've always thought of Douglas Adams as a genius. He really was an incredible man and an incredible thinker.

As other posters have said...the world will end when it ends. There will be little anyone can do about it. In fact, the world could end in ten minutes...things is, you just won't know.

Best advice for anyone who is worried...Live life NOW. Too many people spends their lives worrying about the afterlife...why worry about that when one thing 100% certain is your life now?

I dunno about a polarity shift, but there are many different cultures where the year 2012 is an "end time". I believe the Aztecs had this one pegged a LONG time ago. Do a google search and you'll find a lot of stuff about 2012. And I agree- what are ya gonna do? Just enjoy your chickens.

BTW, the poles of the earth have shifted several times over the earth's history. It won't do much other than mess up some of our magnetic equipment like compasses, etc. The magnetic field is soooo tiny that humans would not know the field was changing.

I am trying to figure out how to survive 2009, 2010, 2011, before I even start to worry about 2012!

Yep I remember the fear of doom of the Y2K thing. It has been going on for years and I dont have time to worry about things I need to do before I die. Might start digging up my grave now while I am still alive.
