2014 breeding season begins, post your results

For all if you experts out there I am going to ask my question a different way! What if I Nate a BS female with a purple male what will I get? And if I mate a IB female with a purple what will I get?

You more experienced types probably think I'm nuts, lol. Not suggesting that you guys do this, it's just what helps me sleep better.

I don't get really worked up, I've lost 1 hen in 19 years to what I now think was egg binding. At the time I wasn't sure what it was and I did the whole glove, lube, vent check and couldn't feel a thing. I have had quite a few occasions where they look ready for days but they continue to walk and roost and eat and they have always passed the egg. The one that didn't was given calcium, vit E, a heat lamp, and the exam, but I just wasn't sure because I couldn't feel anything. She was fine one morning and by the next she couldn't use her legs and by the next she was gone. I will get worked up if one stops walking, but I will not be optimistic about being able to pull her thru it. Still losing only one in 19 years tells me nature generally takes care of things. The most recent egg layed actually has bumpy calcium deposits on the shell, so I'm a bit worried I may be overdoing it with the calcium.

I'll give this a try, if I'm wrong someone please jump in and correct me. Purple is a sex linked color. From a purple male You will get purple daughters from any hen. Is the purple in question a barred wing or a black shoulder? If he's a barred wing and you mate him w/ a BS hen you will get barred wing offspring all males will look like a plain IB but will be split to purple and black shoulder(meaning they will carry those genes but not show them). female offspring will be purple and will carry the genes for BS but not show it. If he's mated with an IB female all male offspring will be IB and split to purple, female offspring will be Purple. If the purple male is a BS, then the BS hen will produce all BS offspring, males will be BS split to purple( carry purple but look blue), females will be Purple BS. If a BS purple male is mated with an IB hen all male offspring will be IB and will be split to purple and split to BS female offspring will be purple and will all be split to BS. Hope that's correct or it's back to the genetics drawing board for me!

This is my first year with peafowl. Last fall I bought a pair of India Blues, the female is 4 years old and the male is 3 years old. The male calls every now and then but not as much as I have heard they do during breeding season. The female laid three eggs earlier this month but only one is fertile and is developing nicely. However, she has not laid any more eggs since she laid those three. I have made lean twos and things in the pen for her to lay under but she doesn't even seem interested in laying or the male when he displays. Is there anything I could do to get her to lay more often or is it still too early in the year? She laid four eggs three weeks after I got her at the end of september last year which I did not think was normal. Any information is appreciated. Thanks Hunter

My first pea egg of the season was gathered today. The bad thing is I can't set any for awhile. We are going out of town the end of May and I can't have any chicks hatching right before or while we are gone. : (
Guess I will find out what pea eggs taste like for a few weeks.
