2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Beautiful baby Q8
I set my first 10 eggs of the year under broodys on 4/28 and 5/2 all are developing .
Good luck with your eggs, this is a perfect ratio, my first 12 eggs only 6 were fertile.

Yes, That is correct.
i just noticed i didn't write **white flight feathers** but you got that

I have to say, I'm not really liking this breeding season so far.

Only 4 of my hens have layed and the first one started almost a month ago, none of these four are very regular and I am seeing a lot more discomfort and distress from them than is normal. They are anywhere from 3 years old to 10 years old so no common denominators there. Only white and pied hens laying so far, nothing from my BS, Cameo, or IB's. They are also a range of ages. Everyone is on layer feed, with oyster shell available and scrambled eggs w/ shell every other day, still a couple soft eggs, and these are our first soft eggs in 18 years. Very unusual and worrisome season for us. Anyone else seeing any major departures from their norm?

Some of mine are just now laying full clutches, no soft shells that i know of, everyone acts fine and looks great, i got one sitting on goose eggs cause i pulled a switch on her, i moved one of the pit bulls over to her area for the night till i make sure no other hen is laying in her nest and then i will run her off the nest so she can hide from me again, it gets real confusing when you got 5 white hens , i thought sure some were laying in the loft of the barn but once again i went and checked and there are no eggs, heck there isn't any thing to make a nest out of it is empty up there. i still got 4 or 5 hens that should be laying but haven't hear them coming in from a nest yet.
It does seem to be a much different year than last year, i figured it was weather related pluse now i have a big blue building that blocks my view from the house so i can't see where the hens are headed unless i am out there.

Wow! Bubbles, Mom, and Chicken Girl are all on nests now, and I haven't found any of them!

I think they like the down-the-hill-and-in-the-brush-that's-full-of-poison-oak area for nesting...

*And by the way: Hey Bellfarm, where the heck are the pictures of your cuties??????

After I was having soft eggs I was feeding them calcium grit and egg shells. I still was getting someone laying soft eggs and narrowed it down to my white peahen Snow White. I started hand feeding the peahens the egg shell pieces and that works very well. That way I can hand feed Snow White calcium and know that she is getting it. Also the peahens come running up to get their egg shell so they know that they need it and gobble it up. I haven't seen another soft egg so far I hope Snow White keeps getting her calcium. So if you can try and hand feed them egg shell pieces so you can be sure that they are getting the calcium and not the peacocks.
