2014 breeding season begins, post your results

Haha so that is why your birds are so comfortable with the scale, they practically are imprinted to it!

Lol, the get weighed daily!

Okay, so my next 4 are due 5-31, 5-29 if they go for 26. Then the next batch is huge for me... Three broodies with 6 each and one large broody with 8, I guess that's 26 and they're due 6-13 if they go 28 days. Tomorrow I might set 10 in the bator, but I have to clean it first, so we'll see, lol.

Many of I don't expect any of the eggs from the 2 year old pen to be fertile, but thought I should set them anyway.

I now got three eggs. Hatch dates if they go 28 days are June 11, 13, and 15 and the next eggs will be 17, 19, and possibly 21 for eggs in my incubator. I'm building a pen for Jadea and her mate to stay in and not worry about the chickens for disrupting them.

So how are you going to manage a staggered hatch with just one incubator, or do you have another one that you can use for lockdown? I'm no expert, but I think you're better off waiting a few days then setting them all at once. I guess it won't matter if you're the type that doesn't pay attention to humidity...

And you better start thinking about getting some Safeguard and metronidazole if you're going to raise them on the ground.

I got safe guard. Once they are old enough to start worming I will start worming them but I'm going to have them in my room for a few weeks then move them to a brooder and then eventually the ground. I don't pay attention to the humidity I just keep the part were it holds water I keep it full of water. Usually when I hatch out chicks that have dates apart I just move the egg away from the hatching egg and try and keep the chick from scrambling the others.

Setting a clutch 3 to 4 days apart is the best way to go, you got fresh layed eggs there so no reason to set then one at a time, doing this you will be in the bator all the time which is not good for chicks when they start hatching , just saying
Good luck sending hatching vibes
