If he is 2 yrs old now there is a chance he will be fertile but not a certainty, however at 1 yr. old your hens probably won't lay any eggs this year so he doesn't need to be fertile yet. I would imagine you will get some eggs from your hens next year. Last year I had two 2-year old hens and both laid 1 clutch of eggs. If your male is 3 next year and your hens are 2 next year you should be in business next year.

I've been reading on many facebook groups that many chicken eggs so far are unfertile. Big problem in some well established breeders birds. My first 6 pea eggs put into the bator was not fertilized and they were put in April 13th. I just got my first egg today from Thangs pen. None of these hens has been grouped with him before but the opal pied and purple pied hen are both 4 years old and should have started laying 3 weeks ago already. Still not one egg from my Cameo pen,and only 3 eggs total from my Midnight b/s pen.
But believe it or not, in my India Blue pen I have a total of eleven hens with 3 peacocks,,and my favoreyeteeist pen,Roadtrip in with 6 hens,last weeks egg numbers was,18 IB,and 11 BSSP eggs was put into the bator. (1.6 IB eggs per hen vs.1.83 BSSP eggs per hen) ,My BSSP pen amazes me each year. This group of birds is constantly setting records and this year I will have 3 consecutive years of records on them. Roadtrip has twice the hens to cover compared to each IB male vs hens to cover.( 3.66 hens per peacock IB pen vs.6 hens for one Roadtrip BSSP) One of Roadtrips hens is a 2yr old peach and I think she has only laid one egg so Roadtrip isn't being overworked but still I bet now I will get more hatched peachicks from this pen per hen than any other. They are a very tight knit group and the pecking order hasn't changed. Recordkeeping is essential in knowing where to improve and what to change. Many here would say I have too many hens with this male but he is a very agressive,fertile peacock,not to mention the loudest and prettiest here at the Palace.
 
These are my first 2 peachicks from this season. I started out with 15 eggs, one day i checked the pen and only saw 7!!!!! looked around and found no shells or yolks or embryos or any clue but found nothing. three days ago I only saw 5 of those eggs and one hatched three days ago, yesterday another egg hatched and today...... no more eggs!! I can't find an explanation to my eggs dissapearing. It sucks cause they were so close to hatching :C




Anyway, here are my first two chicks (IB mom, white dad)




I've never sexed peachicks, until its obvious what they are when they are around 1. when and how can I tell what I got?
