2016 Gosling Hatch-a-long

Beautiful pictures.  Love seeing your dewlaps.  Look forward to hatching a few buff babies along with you.

Serv, buff dewlaps are big birds, but I have a few greys that dwarf my biggest buff, which is why it is important to mix greys with buffs in any buff dewlap breeding program.  The infusion of the bigger greys will continue to make buffs larger.

Very interesting to know! Thanks for the advice.
It is probably the same with Africans.
I have large browns but some of my buffs a lot larger.
I must show you the YouTube video of the large gander

Hello everyone. I have a  few questions. I am going to be setting four Embden goose eggs tomorrow. I am unsure as what temp and humidity to set me incubator at. It is currently setting at 100.5 and 45% humidity. But I have read so many articles and it seems like they all tend to say a different temp and humidity. I didn't have very good luck with my welsh harlequins. Two out of sixteen hatched. Any and all advice is appreciated. Oh I am using a still air incubator if that makes a difference. Thanks.

With my incubator I actually never know what the humidity is (I only fill the water trays and refill them at day 28.
With temperature mine is always at 37.5 degree Celsius if that helps?
In fact it's always 37 degrees Celsius for goose eggs.
I get 90-95%hatch rate every year and keep trying to get 100% but maybe this year is the year!
Goose eggs are a little harder then duck eggs.
You need to wet goose eggs and I find that the more you turn the eggs the better hatch rate.
You can cool the eggs if you want but I don't do that.
I've an still air bator too.
Anything else you need to know?

Whats the best way to wet thhem down? I have read you can spray them or soak them in a cip for a min. The cup one has me a lottle nervous. Also is lock down still 28 days?

I get a bowl of luke warm water (more colder then warmer) and put in one egg at a time for 15 secs and make sure the air sac is facing upwards. In the water.
Yes my geese all hatch at day 31 so lock down is always day 28 ;)

Nice Embdens! Love looking at the buffs

P, Jean Luc looks great!

I got my incubator yesterday and found my first goose egg of the year. We will finally separate the whites and dewlaps this weekend. Hope to have the new bator fired up soon!

I set my first eggs today too. I don't even know how many. I collect and set them on weekends so I can be home when they hatch. And some experience tells me that I don't want goslings till late March. Too cold and they get big too fast. lol
